BeavPalooza!!! Hoops 4-0!! Football beats UW!

It was quite the day to be a Beaver today.  After a controlling football win against the Huskies in a game played with strong effort from start to finish, the Beaver Hoops team took on Texas in the Legends Classic in East Rutherford, New Jersey.  It was a tight game throughout but Texas had the lead for the majority of the second half.   OSU kept it tight enough and in the stretch made key plays and free throws, including a clutch high arcing 3 pointer by Ahmad Starks during the crucial final stretch and were able to force overtime after Jared Cunningham made 2 final free throws.  His first free throw bounced off the rim, rolled against the backboard and then wiggled its way back into the basket.  After a final defensive stop in the last few seconds it was on to overtime.

In OT Texas scored first, but then Ahmad Starks and then Angus Brandt made back to back 3’s and OSU took a 4 point lead.  They played solid enough after that on defense and Jared stayed aggressive and kept getting fouled on the other end and made most of them.  We caused a final key turnover with OSU outfighting Texas for a loose ball and OSU was able to stretch the lead as far as 7 before winning 100-95!   This is a great program to beat for OSU and a game that will be a big boost for the resume come post-season time.  OSU plays in the Legends Classic Championship on Monday night.  How great it would be to win and be 5-0!  Right now being at 4-0 and matching the 4-0 start of the 2000-01 team feels pretty darn good.

Football had a 17-7 halftime lead and played with their heads on and hard all day long.  Jovan Stevenson rushed for 3 touchdowns, Mannion was effective and James Rodgers set the all-time OSU reception record with 222 career catches, before spraining his ankle in the 2nd quarter.   That was the only unfortunate part of the entire day for Beavers fans.  We will hope he recovers in time to see action against Oregon in the Civil War but regardless he proved himself to have a heart of gold again today.   It was an amazing day for Beaver Nation and the major effort by Craig Robinson and the Hoops team to claw back and force OT and then grab a huge victory for Oregon State sealed it!  Great job Beavs!!  Keep it going and lets win the Legends Classic Championship against Vanderbilt on Monday night!  6:00 PM tipoff.
